Commission on Ethics Holds First Meeting
On February 23, the recently appointed Commission on Ethics held its first official meeting. Assistant County Administrator Brad Merriman opened the meeting and Chief Judge Peter Blanc officially swore in the five-member commission. Members included: former Assistant U.S. Attorney Bruce Reinhart, FAU ethics professor Dr. Robin Fiore, retired Circuit Judge Edward Rodgers, attorney Manuel Farach, and CPA Ronald E. Harbison. Judge Rogers was named chair and Manuel Farach vice chair. Assistant County Attorney Lenny Berger gave a brief overview of Florida's Government in the Sunshine Law. County staff members provided status updates on Web presence, Inspector General fees, lobbyist registration, office space and training initiatives for employees and advisory board members. The recruitment and selection process for both the Inspector General and Executive Director for the Commission on Ethics were discussed in detail. Members also voted to adopt the initial plans for office space at the county's Vista Center. The committee's next meeting is scheduled for March 18 at 4 p.m. in the Governmental Center, 12th floor McEaddy Conference Room. # # #
