The Board of County Commissioners, through the Department of Economic Sustainability (DES), has approved a total of $713,000 in federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Energy to assist Doctors Scientific Organica (DSO) acquire, remodel and equip a 25,000-square-foot facility at 1210 West 13th Street in Riviera Beach.
With a total project investment of $3.1 million, the company will expand its product and customer base in the manufacture of food and weight-loss products under the trademarked names Smart for Life, Thin Adventure, The Cookie Diet, and Zilch. DSO plans to create 25 full-time jobs within five years.
DSO was assisted by the Business Development Board in its search for a suitable site. Palm Beach County worked closely with the company to complete its financing package for working capital and energy retrofits at the new facility.
DSO was founded in 2006 by Dr. Sasson E. Moulavi, a board-certified physician in bariatric medicine and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and the American Board of Anti-Aging Medicine. The company’s major customers include Smart Life Centers, Costco USA, Costco Canada, Walgreens, Sams Club Mexico, and Wal-Mart.
