At the March 11, 2008 Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board took the following action:

Traffic cameras – approved on first reading an ordinance allowing for the installation of traffic cameras on County roads to deter red-light running, with final adoption in May, if the state fails to adopt such a measure during the current legislative session. Under the plan, the owner of a vehicle photographed running a red light would be issued a $125 citation by mail; no points would go on the owner’s license.

Traffic hearings – approved spending $44,500 to keep Court Administration’s civil traffic hearing officer program operating through June 30. The streamlined program handles approximately 3,000 traffic infraction cases per week.

United Way – approved a request of $105,000 for the United Way Prosperity Campaign to provide free tax-preparation services.

Airports – approved implementation of a general aviation landing fee at Palm Beach International Airport. An outside firm will be hired to bill aircraft owners and collect monies; the fee schedule has not yet been determined.

Water Utilities – approved an interlocal agreement with Indian Trail Improvement District to provide potable water, reclaimed water and wastewater services to the Acreage/Loxahatchee area; residents will not be required to hook up to the County’s system.

Domestic partners – voted against a proposal that would have granted medical leave to County employees to care for their domestic partners.

County investments – received a positive update on the State Board of Administration’s local government investment fund.

Acceler8 – received a report by the South Florida Water Management District on workforce training and local business development.
