On Oct. 26, District 2 Commissioner Paulette Burdick joined local civic leaders and residents to kick off the Neighborhood Renaissance affordable housing program in Westgate.

Funding was made available by Palm Beach County’s Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) through the Florida CDBG 2005 Disaster Recovery Initiative program.

Neighborhood Renaissance, Inc. is arranging construction of 13 energy-efficient, three- and four-bedroom homes for first-time home buyers in the unincorporated community north of PBIA.

Each home meets green building standards with Florida friendly landscaping, and eight of the houses are already under contract.

Guest speakers at the groundbreaking included Commissioner Burdick, HCD Director Ed Lowery, Carl Flick, president of Neighborhood Renaissance, Inc., and Jim Walker of the Florida Community Loan Fund.
